Day 2 Coonamble to Walgett

Updated: Mar 20

After a terrific evening with a great feed thanks to the Terminus Hotel, we were treated to a B&E roll at the showground before making our way back over the Castlereagh River, the bridge proving to be the biggest hill of the day.

Coonamble also provided the catalyst for some early morning tyre changing practice, and there has been some highly skilled and speedy displays of thumb power to get the bikes back on the road in good time.

Once again things go decidedly warm in the pre-lunch leg and a subtle head wind wreaked havoc with some riders, so to Walgett Memorial Pool and a sausage was a welcome to remember. A local tour of the Museum revealed stunning facts about mechanical shearing and paddle steamers that made the mind boggle. We are now off to dinner and an auction at the Walgett Sporting Club.

Tonight we farewell Brad McGee who has ridden with us from Dubbo, put up with a fair amount of 'fan' questioning and genuinely made the ride more enjoyable. Brad improvised a sprint race in the Bowling Club and gave us some very humble insights into the differences between teams and mates and winning at the highest levels. Thanks Brad.
